7th stage of our Trip in the French vineyards: the vineyard of Jura! One of the smallest vineyards in France, but it conceals fantastic wines! Come and discover the secrets of the Jura vineyard…
How well do you know the vineyard of Jura?
The vineyard is located in the Jura region in Franche-Comté, its surface area is 2000 hectares and it extends over 80km.
The grape varieties used to produce Jura wines are : for red wines Poulsard, Trousseau, Pinot Noir; and for white wines Chardonnay and Savagnin. The vineyard is planted on marly-limestone soils.
In addition, Jura wines are classified in 7 AOCs: Arbois, Château-Châlon, Côtes du Jura, l’Etoile, Crémant du Jura, Macvin, Marc du Jura.
38 winegrowers with the “Vignobles & Découvertes” label are committed to welcoming you and sharing their love of the Jura and its wines…
The vineyard offers a unique variety of wines!
The vin jaune, contained in 62cl, is a dry white wine, aged under a rare veil, recognized as one of the 5 best white wines in the world. It is aged for a minimum of 6 years and 3 months in the cellar. The red wines are round, sustained and with spicy notes. The white wines are fine, elegant and very aromatic.
Then, the vin de paille is a sweet wine, the result of a selection of the finest grapes. Originally its long drying process was carried out on the straw, hence its name. Slightly acidic, the straw wine is of a soft voluptuousness. Macvin, white, rosé or red, is a great liqueur wine, rich in aromas of mirabelle plum and candied fruit. Marc, an amber-yellow brandy with vanilla notes, is a powerful, fine and brilliant wine. Finally, the Crémant offers a sparkling wine of unparalleled quality: elegant, brilliant and festive!
You are bound to find a Jura wine that suits you!
What food and wine pairings?
Here is a menu that we have drawn up in order to best taste the wines of the Jura. Treat your taste buds!
As an appetizer, to accompany your quiches or soufflés, you can serve a floral white wine to enhance the taste of your quiches! You can also serve it with local cured ham or crayfish and a scallop.
Then, we recommend a red wine to accompany your red meats and game: a Trousseau, more tannic, goes perfectly with grilled meats and small game in sauce…
The vin jaune is ideal thanks to its power to reveal the sweet aromas of even the strongest cheeses!
Finally, serve a straw wine to accompany your chocolate desserts, it’s delicious! For a sure value, you can serve a Crémant du Jura to marry it with your fruity, chocolatey or creamy desserts…
