Interview with Mona Roson, wine tourisme manager at Châtau de Reignac
WTB: What is wine tourism for you? Why do you open your property and which visitors would you like to receive?
“Wine tourism is very important for Reignac. Our desire to share has led us to develop tourism at the château over the past few years. Opening the property to visitors allows us to share our passion and our know-how with them. We wish to receive every type of visitors, group, family, couple… we adapt ourselves to each request. Our oenotouristic offer is very broad and suits to a varied demand.”
WTB: What are the strengths of your property to offer wine tourism activities?
“The Château de Reignac is perfectly located, halfway between Bordeaux and Saint-Emilion. During their visit our visitors can discover our cellars, but also how we harmonize tradition and the most modern techniques. The unique tasting tower a 16th century dovecote as well as the greenhouse designed by Gustave Eiffel will be part of their magical and gourmet journey into the world of Reignac.
Thanks to a multilingual team our visits are available in french, english, spanish, german and bulgarian.
The beauty and the quality of reception have been rewarded by the international Best of Wine Tourism prices in 2015, 2016 (gold) and 2018 (gold) as well as the TripAdvisor certificate of excellence for the years 2015, 2016 and 2017.”
WTB: What is your most reserved ‘flagship’ service?
“The visit “Reignac and its scents garden” is a real success.
It has been awarded by the Gold Best of Wine Tourism 2016. Our garden gathers a wide range of plants. They offer many perfumes, various aspects and different tastes that we can find in our white and red wines. Located near the Gustave Eiffel greenhouse, this delicate selection of plants and fruits delights our visitors with subtle and varied aromas. This pleasant walk allows visitors to exercise and improve their olfactory memory. After the visit of the garden we propose an tasting initiation followed by a tasting of a white wine and two red wines.
This visit is available between May and October depending on weather conditions.”
WTB: What activities set you apart from other properties in the area?
“The two activities that make our offer apart from the other properties are our two thematic tours. “Reignac and its scents garden” and “The terroir in all its senses”. This one gives our visitors the opportunity to meander through the vineyards by bike with our guide. To discover the origin of the complexity and the diversity of our wines due to an exceptional terroir. We explain the particularities of each grape variety and the terroir characteristics.
But also the importance of the biodiversity, the origin of the soil and the consideration of the sun exposure. Because a great terroir cannot express itself without appropriate work; we entrust the secret of the elaboration of our wines, going through the wine making process and a visit of the ageing cellars, where a barrel tasting awaits our visitors. This visit ends with a tasting of two finished red wines in the 16th century dovecote.”
