Our historie

At the heart of Madiran and Gascony regions, Alain Brumont has established much more than a brand or a concept. Better than that, he has created an iconic Brumont taste Brumont. rubbing shoulders with the leading French and international AOP, it was almost his duty to glorify the leading region for gastronomic produce worldwilde. For more than 30 years, he has been building on a terroir of diversities and nuances.

Château Bouscassé, between Heritage and Tradition

It was in 1979 that Alain Brumont took over the reins of the family domain where he was born and  grew up. For Alain Brumont, Bouscassé is the scent of childhood, memory and polyculture practiced by his ancestors. The domain grew from 17 hectares in the 80s to more than 120 today, revealing no less than 6 unique clay-limestone terroirs. In 1988, Alain Brumont created the firstvendange tardive (late harvest) sweet wines, a rather unusual practice in the South-West.

Château Montus, Inspiration and Creation

Since 1985, this wine has shaken up the hierarchy of the great legendary reds, compelling even certain international critics to dub it the “Petrus of the South-West”. A highly symbolic designation for a wine which has since received international acclaim. At a furniture auction, Alain Brumont visited again the Château of Castelnau-Rivière-Basse, which he has known since his childhood and which in the past supplied wine for Napoleon 1er. In 1980, he finally bought a ruined building that he rebuilt himself one stone at a time. Yet it was the terroir around that most strongly inspired him. Slopes with large roundded pebbles on a fine clay soil, that held the promise of a great reserve-quality wine. Alain Brumont has the firm intuition that this was a place where he could cultivate excellence and give back his nobility to the Tannat grape variety, emblematic of the appellation, too often criticized.

In 1990, he discovered an ideal plot, La Tyre that will become a wine world Icon. Château Montus is now one of the largest estates in the South-West. In 1995, tireless builder, Alain Brumont built the underground cellar of Château Montus. And in 2003 the Château became a prestigious reception venue.

Alain Brumont visionary style,

The first Château Montus vintage of 1982 made real waves in the oenological world with its unprecedent blend of 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Innovative, Alain Brumont develops the first Madiran 100% Tannat, the first vintage 100% new barrels. He is the first to raise barrels at the top of the Pic du Midi and the first winemaker in the South-West to rise to the level of the greatest wines in the world.

Château Montus is now one of the icons of the world’s Top 10. Not to mention the Château Bouscassé 2014, No. 13 in the Top 100 Wine Enthusiast 2018, and before it, Bouscassé 2009, which is part of the Top 100 worldwide Wine Spectator. Aprecious recognition to Alain Brumont.
