La historia de este Chateau, Premier Grand Cru Classé de Sauternes en 1855, se une desde el siglo XVlllème con la del Chateau Peyraguey. Durante una sucesión en 1879; la parte más alta de la finca fue nombrada Clos Haut-Peyraguey.
La Historia de Clos Peyraguey cuyo nombre significa colina o promontorio, es una antigua baronía adquirida en el siglo XVIII por el presidente del Parlamento de Burdeos quien fue guillotinado durante la Revolución. Fue en este punto que el señor Lafaurie compró la finca con nombre de Pichard-Lafaurie. En 1864 el Sr. Saint Rieul Dupouy vendió al rey de España Alphonse XII una barrica de Chateau Peyraguey 1858 al precio fabuloso de 6000 francos de oro. En 1879 la propiedad pasó de manos del señor Saint Rieul Dupouy a las del Conde Duchatel. Fue durante la partición de la herencia del Conde en 1879, que la finca fue dividida en dos: una parte fue nombrada Lafaurie-Peyraguey en homenaje al señor Lafaurie quien le dio fama y prestigio, y el terreno más alto en la parte superior de la colina de Bommes se llamará Château Clos Haut-Peyraguey. Las dos fueron adquiridas por un farmacéutico parisino, el Sr. Grillon. En 1914, Eugene Garbay, el bisabuelo de Jacques-Pauly, se convirtió en propietario, con Fernand Ginestet, del Château Clos Haut-Peyraguey (él era ya propietario del Château Haut-Bommes).
El Sr. Ginestet unos años más tarde, vendió sus acciones a la empresa familiar. Eugene Garbay donó las dos propiedades a sus nietos Bernard y Pierre. Manejaron las dos propiedades durante años. Fue en 2012 que Bernard Magrez compró el Clos Haut-Peyraguey para perpetuar la excelencia de este Sauternes, sino también para darle una reputación internacional.

When I booked the tour, I was only offered a tour in French, fortunately, Clara spoke excellent English and explained everything very well. The Five Sense tour was very interesting and informative. Well done Clara.
They were so wondefully accommodating! We actually booked this tour quite late and it happened that there was no English tour guide available. They offered to reschedule for the next day but we would be leaving the area. They were kind enough to allow us to still visit and gave us a tour in French, but we were able to do some translating and they had some pamphlets in Englis that were very helpful. It was a great tour and tasting!

I thought we could taste a mature wine instead. Tasting a immature wine will just make the trip imperfect.

A very kind old man greeted us. he spoke only French . Very helpful with our questions.
Our host was excellent once we located him, because it wasn't clear where to go, the reception was locked, and we waited for a bit. Tour and tasting were one of our best experiences at this smaller producer, and our guide was very engaging. He didn't speak English, however, so I did my best to translate for my father, who does not speak French. Overall, a good experience.
