La nostra storia
La storia di questo castello, Sauternes Premier Grand Cru Classé nel 1855, si fonde dal 18 ° secolo con quella di Château Peyraguey. Durante una successione nel 1879, la parte più alta della tenuta fu chiamata Clos Haut – Peyraguey. La storia di Clos Peyraguey, il cui nome significa collina o promontorio, è una vecchia baronia acquisita nel XVIII secolo dal presidente del parlamento di Bordeaux, ghigliottinato durante la Rivoluzione. Fu a questo punto che il signor Lafaurie acquisì la tenuta sotto il nome di Pichard-Lafaurie. Tra il 1864 e il 1879 questa proprietà passò dalle mani del signor Saint Rieul Dupouy a quelle del conte Duchatel. Fu durante la condivisione dell’eredità di quest’ultimo nel 1879 che la proprietà fu divisa in due: una parte fu chiamata Lafaurie-Peyraguey in onore del signor Lafaurie che gli aveva dato fama e prestigio e la terra più alta in cima alla collina di Bommes si chiamerà Clos Haut-Peyraguey. Questi ultimi furono acquistati da un farmacista parigino, il sig. Grillon. Fu nel 1914 che Eugène Garbay, bisnonno di Jacques Pauly, acquistò Fernand Ginestet da Clos Haut-Peyraguey (già possedeva Château Haut-Bommes). Il signor Ginestet qualche anno dopo venderà le sue azioni alla società di famiglia. Eugène Garbay donò le due proprietà ai suoi due nipoti, Bernard e Pierre, che gestirono le due proprietà per molti anni. Fu nel 2012 che Bernard Magrez acquistò il Clos Haut-Peyraguey per perpetuare l’eccellenza di questo Sauternes ma anche per dargli un’influenza internazionale.

When I booked the tour, I was only offered a tour in French, fortunately, Clara spoke excellent English and explained everything very well. The Five Sense tour was very interesting and informative. Well done Clara.
They were so wondefully accommodating! We actually booked this tour quite late and it happened that there was no English tour guide available. They offered to reschedule for the next day but we would be leaving the area. They were kind enough to allow us to still visit and gave us a tour in French, but we were able to do some translating and they had some pamphlets in Englis that were very helpful. It was a great tour and tasting!

I thought we could taste a mature wine instead. Tasting a immature wine will just make the trip imperfect.

A very kind old man greeted us. he spoke only French . Very helpful with our questions.
Our host was excellent once we located him, because it wasn't clear where to go, the reception was locked, and we waited for a bit. Tour and tasting were one of our best experiences at this smaller producer, and our guide was very engaging. He didn't speak English, however, so I did my best to translate for my father, who does not speak French. Overall, a good experience.
