Women and wine, a perfect tune ?
women in wineMore often the winecommunity is considered as a male chauvinist world. However since years, we can find women as wine steward, oenologist, cellarman, or simply fond of tasting. Naturally we find them too in the wineyard, where they roll up their sleeves in the vines.On the one hand, we can note that some of these women had learn to know and appreciate the wine by theirselves, on the other hand  we can see, it is due to their inheritance that they dedicate themselves in the wineyard. They are familiar with the wine-making process since their early childhood. They left the domaine just the time for their oenology or oenotourism studies.
A third of the oenologists are women, the wine stewards represent a quarter of the profession, one explotation chief of three is a woman. Finally in the business, the communication and the marketing, they forme the majority. These figures show that we can count on women in the wine business !

Here is this some women who had succeedeed in this domain…
Let’s begin by the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region, where in 2003 Isabel Ferrando bought the Saint-Prefert domain. She created 3 wines of the Châteauneuf du Pape rouge appellation : « le Classique », « la Réserve Auguste Favier » and « la Collection Charles Giraud » Not simply satisfied with these majectic wines, she decided to reunite 3 famous territories of the appellation : Les sables de colombis, l’argile rouge des roues ainsi que les safres et le sable du quartier de Rayeas et du Cristia to create the Isabel Ferrando domain. Born in Provence region, she was thinking of dedicated herself in a bank, she had work in the bank before change radicaly to be a vine grower in 2002. She knew how to prove, as a woman, that she could manage a vineyard.
It’s in 1991 that Carole Duval-leroy, after her husband’s death, regains control of the famous domain of the same name. She succeeded to modernise the production, diversify the range and develop the traditional circuits of distribution by exporting in the world, especially in Asia and Great-Britain. The famous wine of the firm is « Femme de Champagne » an assembly of invaluable vines as the chardonnay and the pinot noir. Her commitment in favour of the sustainable development had give her the the Green Business Award of Tribune Women’s Award on the 3 December of 2014. Moreover her numerous partnerships, as in july 2014, where the Duval-Leroy Maison cooperated Paul Bocuse Institute makes her a charismatic person of the Champagne region.
Estelle Touzet, a young woman of 34 years old is Chef Sommelière at the prestigious parisian hotel Le Meurice since 2010. She comes from the Loire region and it is here, that with a History profesor that she discovered her passion for the women in winegastronomy by animating a local radio. After studies of hostelery restauration followed by a sommelerie speciality, the young woman worked in the most reputated places in the world : le Château de Cordeillan-Bages, the Bristol Hotel, the Guy Savoy restaurant, the hotel of Crillon and with Tom Aikens in London. In march 2008 , Estelle Touzet joins the team of the hotel le Meurice as assistant Chef Sommelier before being Chef Sommelière on october 2010. A 34 ans, Estelle Touzet est Chef Sommelière au prestigieux hôtel parisien le Meurice depuis 2010. At the head of 5 people, she really want to teach her values like the fact to listen and to share and deal with the cooking of the Chief Yannick Alléno wich had obtained  « 3 étoiles ».
Mouton rotschildTo conclude, a lady of the wine world, the Baronne Philippine de Rotschild who is died on 22th august 2014, who had followed the tradition of her father with his famous Chateau Mouton-Rothschild. She was an actress before she took the control of the first Wine Classified in 1988, among others prestigious wines like Mouton Cadet. Also she was president of the council of survey and the majoritary actionnary of the Baron Philippe de Rothschils Society, the first exportator of AOC wine in the world. She knew how to modernise the work tool and shine a light on her wines.
As the Veuve Cliquot and Jeanne Pommery in their own century, had succeeded to take control of the wineyard and give an international celebrity to her Champagne,  without their husband, these women had known how to impose themselves and do not stop to prove that they are as powerful as men !
